UV radiation from the sun can cause skin cancer, expert warns

Exposure to direct sunlight during peak hours can be hazardous to your health due to the harmful effects of ultraviolet (UV) rays, Ruben Grigoryan, Head of the Environmental Hygiene Department at Armenia’s National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, has warned.

"Ultraviolet radiation from the sun can have harmful impacts on the body," he told a press conference on Monday. "It can lead to skin irritations such as blisters, swelling and itching, and in some cases, even contribute to the development of some cancer types."

Grigoryan emphasized the importance of avoiding direct sunlight between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., when UV exposure is at its highest. As preventive measures, he recommended wearing wide-brimmed hats, light-colored clothing and using sunscreen.

The expert also stressed the importance of staying hydrated. "Adequate fluid intake is essential for the body to function properly in the heat," he noted, advising water as the preferred choice.People with chronic diseases, particularly those related to the cardiovascular or genitourinary systems, should consult their physicians and remain indoors and rest during the hottest parts of the day, Grigoryan added.
