First Aid for Burns

What you should do when you gets a burn depends on how severe the burn is,you can get burned by heat, fire, radiation, sunlight, electricity, chemicals or hot or boiling water.

Most minor burns will heal on their own, and home treatment is usually all that is needed to relieve your symptoms and promote healing. But if you suspect you may have a more severe injury, use first-aid measures while you arrange for an evaluation by your doctor.

Types of burns:
  • First degree. The skin turns red,Swelling and pain but it does not blister. It is some what painful, like a sunburn.First-degree burns usually heal in 3 to 6 days.
  • Second degree. The outer layer of skin is burned, and some part of the dermis is damaged. The burn will be very painful,Red,white or splotchy skin,Swelling and will likely develop blisters.Second-degree burns usually heal in 2 to 3 weeks. Red, white or splotchy skin
  • Third degree:The most serious burns involve all layers of the skin and underlying fat. Muscle and even bone may be affected. Burned areas may be charred black or white. The person may experience Difficulty breathing,carbon monoxide poisoning.other toxic effects, if smoke inhalation also occurred  Third-degree burns usually take a very long time to heal.
