One of a factor is time management. Time Management is a careful discharge of every duty that makes days happy and night restful. Time management skills are most helpful for the persons those are engaged in too many jobs during one time. Usually it is found that we are saving our time by capturing too many jobs at one time. But this thinking is only a myth of our mind. Actually we are making our schedule fuzzy and confused. After some time we are not able to complete a single job. In this case to disguise our inaptitude, we start to grudge our colleague. Sometimes, we go in stress and strain. This all can ruin our method of living. Medleynews.com suggests some tips to manage your time. These tips help you to save energy and also improve your standard of living. You have to set the priorities of your tasks. Start your job with highest priority. Concentrate all of the energy on the same task. Do not fuel to fire by doing the task. You should keep the working hours different from living hours. In living hours do not think about work. Spend your living hours with leisure. Take your meal at time. Take a proper diet. Take your proper sleep. Listen some light music, do some walk or yoga when you feel stress. By doing all these, you will find that there is change in your lifestyle. Smile comes to your lips again. Once you understand the art of living, no one can defeat you in life. Source; Medley NewsImage: flickr.com

Can High Fiber Diet Help Prevent Prostate Cancer?

Can High Fiber Diet Help Prevent Prostate Cancer?
Scientists have studied that the rate of prostate cancer occurrence is similar among Asian and Western societies, yet the rate of disease progression is much higher in Western men, leading to a significantly increased death rate among this population. Why? A University of Colorado Cancer Center study published in the January 2013 issue of the journal Cancer Prevention Research shows that the answer may be a high-fiber diet, which may have the clinical potential to control the progression of prostate cancer in patients diagnosed in early stages of the disease. High Fiber Diet to Prevent Prostate Cancer Researchers developed a mouse model to test the influence of inositol hexaphosphate (IP6), a major component of high-fiber diets, on the progression of prostate cancer tumors and subsequent malignant growth. Mice with existing prostate cancer were divided into two groups. The first group was fed a standard diet with the addition of IP6, while the second group received the same diet and served as a control group. The lead study author, Dr. Komal Raina noted "The study's results were really rather profound. We saw dramatically reduced tumor volumes, primarily due to the anti-angiogenic effects of IP6."Scientists determined that the bioactive compound kept prostate tumors from making the new blood vessels they require to supply themselves with energy. Without this energy, prostate cancer can't grow. Additionally, they found that the cancerous tumor cells metabolized glucose at a much slower rate, inhibiting their ability to grow from their preferred fuel source. Dr. Raina concluded "Researchers have long been looking for genetic variations between Asian and Western peoples that could explain the difference in prostate cancer progression rates, but now it seems as if the difference may not be genetic but dietary. Asian cultures get IP6 whereas Western cultures generally do not." Boost your natural intake of IP6 and fiber by adding six to ten servings of fresh vegetables, fruit and legumes to your daily diet to significantly lower the risk of prostate cancer and most other forms of cancer. Eating nothing but soup 'can make you slim

The simple secret to staying slim in eating more soup, a new book has claimed. “Slim people know that a tasty bowl of soup fills them up, crushes cravings, keeps them energised for hours and is hard to beat for good all-round nourishment,” the Daily Mail quoted Fiona Kirk, best-selling author of diet books, as saying. In ‘Soup Can Make You Thin’, Kirk added that sticking to soup can mean shifting those stubborn pounds in as little as 10 days. She also expounded the virtues of variety as long as it’s soup and said that it is not just the cabbage soup diet in disguise. “There are as many reasons why some of us struggle to lose weight and others don’t as there are varieties of soup to choose from but increasing evidence shows that the main stumbling blocks to getting slim and staying slim are hunger, cravings, diet boredom and lack of essential nutrients,” Kirk said. “Soup is simply a miracle in a bowl for fat loss. The combination of water and solids fills you up more effectively and for longer than if you eat exactly the same food but drink the water separately - plus the water and water content of the vegetables in soup allows for efficient exchange of nutrients into body cells, greatly reducing the possibility of bloating,” she said. In short, not only does soup keep you slim, but it keeps your nutrient levels topped up too - a double whammy of benefits according to Kirk. Choose soups that are rich in protein or add protein toppings to keep you nourished for longer while keeping the calorie count low. Add healthy fats like olive oil to fill you up, keep you energised and stem cravings, and include herbs and spices in your soups to fire up your metabolism and cut down on salt. “The wealth of ingredients in a bowl of soup provides a good balance of carbohydrates, protein and fats as well as the vitamins and minerals required to create energy and keep us firing on all cylinders,” Kirk said. “Vegetables which are always in evidence in soup provide good levels of fibre to keep digestion in good shape and make getting our five a day a no brainer. “And, soup is easy on the pocket, quick to make, widely available, easily transportable and diet boredom won’t be on the cards as the choices are endless,” she said. According to Kirk, what’s more is that you won’t risk dropping the ball at breakfast because soup happens to be a brilliant choice for breakfast too. “Breakfasting on soup might be alien concept to many but once you have tried it you may never again want to run out the door on just a slice of toast!” she added. ‘Soup Can Make You Thin’ also has 26 different soup recipes split into three categories. “SuperSkinny Soups” are for when you want to lose flab fast, “Skinny Soups” for continued fat loss and “FatBustForever Soups” for when you are close to your goal and want to maintain your new lean look. There are also plenty of recommendations about which ready-made soups to choose off the shelves and when eating out. Source: Indian ExpressImage: flickr.com

10 ways to fight Office lethargy

Every single Monday has most of us wishing for more hours in bed. While some of us are merely sad to see the weekend go, there are some others who genuinely have trouble with sleep and energy levels - leaving them lethargic for most of their work days. Many of them might be suffering from Hypersomnia and genuinely feel the need to sleep every few hours due to poor sleeping habits, which ultimately affect work hours and overall performance levels. Here are top 10 ways to fight office lethargy and how you can learn to keep sleepiness at bay
Be friendly with your coffee machine, but don't get too close. Caffeine stimulates the heart and respiratory systems. But don't be too friendly. Limit your coffee consumption to just two cups a day. Make sure that for every coffee you drink when you are feeling sleepy, you drink two full glasses of water, to help your system replenish what the caffeine takes out.
Eat breakfast to keep hunger pangs at bay. Office life can wreck your diet decisions if you are are not careful. One of the most common reasons behind our urge to overeat at work is the lack of an adequate breakfast. Skipping breakfast leads to an erratic lifestyle pattern. It's the most important meal of the day, and we end up neglecting it. A good healthy breakfast ensures that you have enough energy supplies, keeping sleepiness at bay.
Try office yoga! Reversed Shoulder Rotation and Thoracic Wave- Inhale as you move your shoulders in an upward and backward direction. Exhale as you move them in a downward and frontward direction. Take deep breaths and keep your neck and spine comfortably straight. Perform 8-10 rotations on each side. Konasana - Stand straight with legs wide apart. Now bend forward from your waist. Try and touch the ground with the tips of your fingers, if possible place both your hands on the ground while standing. Your upper body should be in a straight line. Look ahead by about 3 inches. Perform konasana for 10-30 seconds and breathe normally throughout the asana.
Give it a break: Understand that you are not a superhero. And to add to it, it may do your eyes a whole lot of good too. Stroll around your office corridor once in a while and meet your friends in order to beat office lethargy. Don't go all out and start partying bang in the middle of a work day, but walk up to any colleagues you need to chat with, get your own bottle of water, and give yourself a break from the desk at regular intervals. Your atrophying leg muscles will thank you for it.
Leave the technology out of your bedroom at night. While most are addicted to televisions, music docks and laptops in their bedrooms, keeping so many distractions strewn around your night's sleep space can be detrimental. Why? Because your mind won't be at ease. Constant whirring, flicking, ticking sounds will keep your mind alert and that's not a good recipe for a good snooze.
De-stress: Stress is one of the main reasons that make the limited time that we have for sleeping less productive. Before sleeping try and do something soothing such as reading, talking to your spouse or close friend, taking a long bath or anything that takes your mind away from what's bothering you. It is not that hard after all. A good night's sleep is a sure shot way to ensure you are full of vigour and energy all day long, even when you at work.
Avoid white foods at night: By white foods we mean foods which are white in colour such as white pasta, white sugar, white rice. They are all high in glycemic index, thus leading to a rise in blood sugar levels, lethargy and laziness. Try and eat sweet potatoes and brown rice at night in order to load up on complex carbs and dietary fibre that'll ensure that you wake up feeling energetic and light.
Try meditation: This really works. People who meditate, do it in the morning, but meditating for half an hour before bed is also a good idea. This will give you a sound sleeping time and will help you in waking up all fresh and happy in the morning. Studies have suggested that people who sleep a deep 6 to 8 hours of sleep are less likely to feel sleepy in the afternoon.
Visit a sleep specialist: If nothing seems to work, then we advise you to see a sleep specialist as you might just be suffering from sleep apnea or narcolepsy. According to experts, untreated sleep and undiagnosed sleep disorders are main reasons why most workers are always sleepy in the office. A sleep specialist will diagnose and prescribe medication for any condition that you might be suffering from.
Respect your limits: In the end, when nothing works and you feel dog tired, then try and respect it! Walk during your lunch break. For instance, you can take a stroll till the end of the road after you are done eating. And if nothing helps, then it is about time you keep your head down for 10 minutes and take a power nap - this will surely energize you! Source: Daily-Protein

Using fitness as an incentive for housework

Bikya Masr, By Carsten Linnhoff, Berlin (dpa) – While washing windows, mopping floors and doing other household chores are hardly popular, housewives and house-husbands can help to motivate themselves by seeing housework as a fitness workout. “The worst thing is inactivity,” said Ingo Froboese, a professor at the Health Center of the German Sport University in Cologne. “Our billions of body cells don’t care what kind of exercise we do. The main thing is getting exercise and that goes for doing housework too. It helps to stimulate metabolism and to stay healthy.” Rainer Stamminger, a professor of home economics at Bonn University, takes a similar view. “Not regarding housework as a burden, but using it as a personal
fitness program provides motivation for unloved chores,” he said. “When the weather’s fine, hang the laundry out to dry on the balcony or in the yard. For one thing, it’ll smell better afterwards and you’ll get some sun as well.” Modern household appliances such as washing machines, dryers and food processors have greatly reduced the amount of physical activity needed in the home. As Stamminger noted, “Housework today has nothing in common with housework 50 or 100 years ago. It’s far less strenuous. Washing laundry by hand, for example, used to be hard work.” So in order to get exercise while doing household chores, a few small tricks may be necessary. For instance, Froboese recommends having the laundry basket in another room during ironing, and fetching each piece of laundry separately. “Getting in

an extra 3,000 steps a day is the equivalent of walking two kilometers,” Froboese said. He said his research showed that “suboptimally challenging exercise has the best effect on the body.” In other words, you don’t have to break a sweat doing the housework to stay in shape. Andreas Mueller, a sports scientist with the German Fitness Instructors’ Association, disagrees. Light physical activity during housework does not promote fitness, he said. Instead, a person would have to climb up and down a ladder while washing windows, for example, which is similar to a workout on a step machine. In general, he said, a chore has to be strenuous enough to cause muscle aches to have any health benefits, such as kneading by hand, washing laundry by hand or chopping wood. Gathering dirty laundry, ironing, and sorting and putting away clean laundry also takes a lot of energy, Stamminger said. Froboese,
Stamminger and Mueller all agree that housework is much more palatable when combined with fitness or entertainment. “Someone who views housework as a fitness program is happier than someone who regards it solely as a  burden,” Stamminger said. “Washing windows and ironing are very unpopular. Cooking meals and garden work are much better liked. A lot of people in our studies find ironing less onerous if they can watch television at the same time.” Stamminger does not advocate a lot of diversion while doing chores, however. Rather, he thinks they should be performed expeditiously. “I’d wash all the windows in one go because you’ve got to prepare the wiper, wash-leather and cleaning bucket,” he said,
adding that it was a good idea to do a chore from start to finish and not interrupt window washing to cook or wash laundry, for example. “This is also sensible from an environmental standpoint. Someone who washes only a few windows needs more water and produces more wastewater.” Hard work burns a lot of calories. The Consumer Initiative, a Germany-wide consumer protection organization, has listed the number of kilocalories that a person weighing 70 kilograms will burn by doing various household chores for 15 minutes: tidying up, 30; ironing, 35; cooking, 40; hanging laundry, 50; mopping the floor, 60; making the beds, 62; vacuum cleaning, 70; washing windows, 83; working in the garden, 88; climbing stairs, 121.
